Trading Standards are advising residents to be on their guard following a spate of calls regarding itinerant traders trying to sell generators, pressure washers and power tools from the backs of a vans. There is always a concern over the safety of items being sold in this manner so if you receive a call, please could you pass details through to Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06

Over the past few days there have been a number of reports of the occupants of a red 4x4 or white van both bearing the reg no N253XAJ acting sus around horses they have been seen to take photos believed with the intent to return later to steal horses any sightings of the two vehicle should be reported to to nyp on 0845 6060247

There have been a number of thefts of diesel from outside tanks. We urge all householders and farms to be vigilant if they have tanks of oil as they are a target due to the high price of fuel and will become increasingly so as prices rise. Please be on the look out for small vans with plastic tanks in the rear and report any suspicious vehicles

Over the past few days there have been reports of persons going door to door in the area selling power washer from the back of a transit van. Members are requested to report any such callers to nyp on 0845 6060247

There has been a suspect male in the area of Scotts hill and Norton college. This male is watching young children. He has not appraoched anyone and he has not committed any offences but we are concerned as we do not know who this male is.The description of the male is, late 40 early 50 with grey wavey shoulder length hair wearing a blue tracksuit and rides a silver / blue mountain bike This male has been seen by the children at 1415 hours in the area of norton college / scotts hill.
On the morning of Thursday the 3rd of April a white male with dark hair and dark eyes, wearing lots of heavy gold jewelery, who had a slight Irish accent attended an address in Orchard Road Malton. The male was persistant in trying to get the occupier to have work done on their drive, they gave a quote of £2640.00 for a small drive. The male entered the property univited and asked to use the toilet, whilst no offences where committed the elderly residents where shaken by the incident. The male left a business card in the name of Improve It UK, from the Cleveland area. I would advise anyone who is visited by this company, to inform police of their attendance at your address and if possible try to obtain any vehicle details. I would also advise that if some turns up at your doorstep, Dont let them in, and dont employ any cold caller.

Trading Stanards have been informed and are aware of this so called scam. Members are advised to ignore these letters and inform the Trading Standards office on 0845 4040 506.
Members are asked to be aware that there have been several reports of Bogus Police Officers throughout the
Police advice is to never allow anyone into the home unless you know who they are or you are expecting them. Always ask for identification and if you are still unsure ask the person for a contact number in order that their identity can be confirmed.
A genuine caller will not be offended if you keep them waiting at the door whilst their identity is checked.
